"Nvidia has officially unveiled its range of 800M series GeForce GTX mobility graphics cards. While much of what was previously rumoured has come to pass, there’s also quite a few new variants, featuring a spread of Kepler, Maxwell and even Fermi architecture.

The hotly-anticipated Maxwell architecture is limited to just three variants, the GeForce GTX 850M, 840M and 830M, as Nvidia introduces a whole new spread of new 800M series GPUs…

The GeForce GTX 880M, 870M and 850M were exactly what we anticipated they would be from the leaked presentation slides, but we’re also seeing the introduction of two 860M variants as well as low end 840M, 830M and 820M mobile graphics solutions.

Nvidia’s announcement of the cards was joined by a claim that we can expect to see 30 to 60 per cent performance increases in comparison to its 700M series of graphics cards, as well as a potential doubling of battery life.

“This year, we are changing the way we define progress for gaming notebooks,” said Nvidia’s product manager Mark Aevermann. “Not only are we bringing faster GPUs to the table, we are also introducing a whole new set of killer features designed specifically for notebook gamers.”

The new Nvidia Battery Boost mode, in conjunction with the efficient and low-power Maxwell GPUs means that some of these cards can offer up to twice the gaming battery life than that seen in previous gen gaming laptops. Battery Boost works by limiting things such as a locked 30fps frame rate while running on battery, before shooting back to 60 fps when plugged into the mains."
